Thomas Lavender (b. 2002) is a British-Belgian composer of contemporary classical music. His music is informed by an enduring fascination with the world around him: its landscapes, its people, and the complexities of living within it. Through a contemporary musical language, he seeks to create works that resonate with shared experiences, inviting reflection rather than offering answers.
Writing primarily for chamber ensembles, solo performers, and voices, Thomas enjoys composing for a wide variety of instrumental and vocal combinations. Collaboration is central to his practice, and he values working closely with performers to develop new projects. Alongside his work as a composer, he is an experienced arranger and orchestrator.
Thomas completed an MA in Composition at Durham University in 2024, where he studied with James Weeks. He previously graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2023, studying composition with Amir Konjani, Dorothy Ker, and Adrian Moore. Since graduating, he has collaborated with a number of solo performers while continuing to develop his compositional practice alongside his work in music publishing.
